The Asia-Pacific is engaged in an intense process of region-building. Driven by economic integration and the end of the Cold War, regionalism is embodied in the rising stature of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC). At the same time, the need for environmental cooperation is urgent. With the world’s highest rates of economic growth, the Asia-Pacific region, especially Northeast Asia, is rapidly emerging as the source of some of the world’s worst environmental problems, including loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, acid rain, and high levels of toxic waste pollution. In the context of economic integration, competitive market forces constrain national governments from raising their environmental commitments. Concerted approaches are needed to establish common environmental policy frameworks.
The APRENet Online Library seeks to facilitate these concerted approaches via information exchange and consensus building. Included below is the “Aprenet search filter,” which may be used to explore the Network’s archives.
