Timothy Savage is Deputy Director of the Seoul branch of the Nautilus Institute for Security & Sustainable Development. From 1997-2002, he worked as Senior Program Officer for Northeast Asia at Institute’s headquarters in Berkeley, CA, where he coordinated cooperative engagement programs with North Korea. He also works as Associate Editor at OhmyNews International, an Internet-based newspaper. From 2004-2005, he was Senior Analyst at the Northeast Asia Office of the International Crisis Group, a Brussels-based non-governmental research & advocacy organization working for conflict prevention worldwide. While there, he produced reports on several issues related to potential conflict in Northeast Asia, including South Korean attitudes toward North Korea; North Korea-Japan relations; and regional historical and territorial disputes.
Tim holds an M.A. in History from the University of Hawaii (1994), where he was an East-West Center Fellow, and a B.A. in History from the University of Chicago (1990). He has written extensively on security issues in Northeast Asia.
