1985 CINCPACFLT Command History (Vol. I)

The mission of the US Pacific Fleet in 1985 was to be prepared to conduct prompt, sustained combat operations to ensure control of the sea and air in the Pacific region. While the US was seen as the dominate power in the area, opposition to the large presence of military forces in countries in the Pacific was starting to build. Nevertheless, Cold War tensions and the need to maintain power supported the maintenance of the USPACFLT.

This report provides a history of the Commander in Chief US Pacific Fleet for 1985. It also includes some information from 1986 at the very end of the report.

“CINCPACFLT has conducted significant development work associated with implementation of the CNO Strategic Homeporting Plan affecting the Pacific Fleet through 1992.” (p 25)
