U.S. national security strategy in 1997 consisted of three principle elements: deterrence, forward defense and alliance solidarity. The Seventh Fleet mission was to enhance regional stability, promote cooperative security and deter aggression in the Indian and Pacific oceans.
This report examines the history of the Seventh Fleet Command in 1997 with a focus on administration, intelligence, operations, logistics, public affairs, plan and documents and legal issues.
