Civil Military Operations Weekly Report for the week of 8-14-May 1987

The following 1987 report by Carroll investigates the issue of venereal disease spread from a specific Korean club. Carroll finds through medical and personal testimony that a number of American patrons have been afflicted by venereal diseases originating from “Beach Club”. He then advocates for the Korean club owner to investigate, or else face military intervention. This article shows the dominance of the American military presence in Korea, as well as the somewhat controversial side of the occupation.

With a significant number of American troops pursuing sexual services from Korean women, STDs have been on the rise, leading to health concerns among many military officials. The report Carroll gives is such a case, where a number of servicemen have contracted venereal diseases from a single location.

“This letter is an official warning that the midnight Club has been recommended to me to be placed off limits to all U.S. service members in accordance with the provisions of USFK/EUSA because of the number of cases of venereal disease identified as having originated in your club.” -Morgan [p. 46]
