Port Vila Climate Vulnerability Assessment – RMIT University

This report constitutes the complete outputs of the climate vulnerability assessment carried out by RMIT University for Port Vila, Vanuatu throughout 2014. It documents the methodology and associated activity (as mapped to the UN-Habitat’s Cities and Climate Change Initiative-CCCI planning structure) and identifies follow up actions. The report highlights some of the initial findings that have arisen in relation to vulnerable communities – in particular informal settlements – and some of the key issues that need to be addressed.

The Antalya Report: Disaster Risk Reduction in a Changing Climate

The Disaster Risk Reduction Expert Forum 2015 took place in February 2015 in Antalya, Turkey. The key reasons for convening this Forum were to: enhance the existing effectiveness and efficiency of DRR programs; share technical and societal experiences among the DRR and CCA programs; and raise awareness and concern about climate change and its consequences for extreme climate, water and weather events. This report includes proceedings from the Forum and the Antalya statement issued by the participants of the meeting.

Aligning the Financial System with Sustainable Development

This report, on an inquiry into aligning the financial system with sustainable development, focuses on moving investments into low-carbon projects. It considers the need to invest in adaptation to protect economies from the risks associated with climate change. The report argues that the world’s financial system must undergo comprehensive change by 2035 if humanity is to make the transition needed to reduce the threat of dangerous climate change.

South Australia’s Climate Change Adaptation Planning Framework

The report identifies the key elements of success associated with climate change adaptation planning in four South Australian regions: what has worked and why? It increases understanding about how agencies, organisations and communities undergo climate change adaptation planning and what lessons can be applied to future planning exercises in the State. The report provides a better understanding of the effectiveness and suitability of the tools, processes and mechanisms implemented to help communities adapt to climate change.

Building Blocks of Rural Community Resilience – Australia

This report tells the story of the Rural People; Resilient Futures (RP; RF moving forward)  pilot project, which has developed and tested a model for engaging rural community service organisations in planning for the impacts of climate change and increasing community resilience. It focuses on the process employed through the RP; RF project, recommendations for similar agencies to adopt, and steps moving forward.

Earth System Governance Conference – Canberra, Australia

The 6th conference on earth system governance will take place in Canberra, Australia from 14-16 December 2016. It will bring leading researchers, early career scholars and policy experts from around the world to the Australian National University to engage in discussions on critical issues in social science governance research on the environment and sustainable development.
