Climate Change and Disaster Resilience – Australia

The report highlights the significant threat posed by climate change in Australia. It urges more work by Australian emergency and disaster management organisations to deal with the effects of climate change. The report lays out eleven recommendations for improving Australia’s national disaster resilience.

Urban Centers: Vulnerability, Adaptive Capacity and Resilience

The paper examines whether repeated patterns of vulnerability and resilience exist across urban areas. It develops a framework illustrating the key components, determinants and outcomes of urban vulnerability, and applies a model-centered meta-analysis approach. The paper argues that it is possible to draw some causal relations or patterns of vulnerability across urban centers.

USAID Roadmap – Climate Change in the Asia-Pacific Region

This roadmap outlines five focus areas for the USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA) to support in its regional programs, and in bilateral contexts where RDMA is the responsible Mission, including: clean energy; forests and land use change; coasts and coral reef ecosystems; freshwater resources and ecosystems; and integrative climate change services initiatives.

Climate Change and Risk Management Challenges

The paper introduces three particular phenomena of climate related risks that will require a change in our thinking about risk management: global micro-correlations, fat tails, and tail dependence. It discusses the implications of these phenomena for loss estimation, adaptation policy, and particularly natural disaster insurance markets. The paper offers some preliminary policy suggestions in this climate risk related research area.

Information for Effective Adaptation – A Practitioner’s Manual

This manual provides information on the following frequently asked questions: What sources of information on climate change exist as a basis for decision making? How reliable is this information? What are sources of uncertainty regarding this information? How can we communicate relevant information to others in a credible way?
