1. Australian Research about Climate Change and Waves
This preliminary study describes Australia’s ocean wave climate. It identifies the trends and year-to-year changes in Australia’s offshore wave climate, including an estimate of the range of the extremes. The study improves understanding of wave behaviour in a changing climate to help researchers manage both the opportunities and the risks.

2. Strategies to Help Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
The paper outlines some of the options for the California’s Air Resources Board (ARB) to consider in designing a program to achieve the greenhouse gas emission targets in the electricity sector. It recommends an approach for distributing GHG emission allocations and auctioning in a multi-sector cap-and-trade program.

3. Maryland Releases Climate Change Action Plan
Maryland’s proposed climate change action plan addresses three key questions: What can the Maryland’s scientists inform about how and when climate change will affect State’s citizens and natural resources? What can Maryland do to adapt to the consequences of climate change? What can Maryland do to reduce GHG emissions?

5. ORCHID: Piloting Climate Risk Screening – Bangladesh
The report details a process to screen the DFID (Department for International Development) Bangladesh bilateral aid portfolio for climate risks. It assesses the emerging challenges in relation to DFID’s policy context and its strategy and programming in Bangladesh. The report outlines the recommended adaptation and risk reduction options resulting from the screening exercise.

Pulhin at the University of the Philippines in Los Banos, Manuel Rangasa at the Center for Initiatives and Research on Climate Adaptation (CIRCA) in Albay-Philippines, write, “The province of Albay shows the key role of local governments in promoting climate change adaptation. Provinces which experience frequent and severe climate hazards are more likely to be aware and responsive to the need for climate change adaptation. Local government units at the provincial scale (meso scale) do have resources to commit to climate change adaptation. And, there is opportunity to integrate climate change adaptation on existing disaster risk management (DRM) institutions and programs.”
