Mr. WANG Qun, a native of Jiangsu Province of China, was born in August 1962.

He graduated from Soochow University in 1985 and pursued his post-graduate studies at

University College Cardiff, UK from 1985-86. He joined the foreign service in August 1985,

and then served as attaché and senior interpreter for state leaders at the Translation and

Interpretation Department of the China’s Foreign Ministry. He was a member of the Chinese

side to the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group (a negotiating body on the question of Hong Kong)

from 1990 to 1993. He worked in the Department of International Conferences and

Organizations in 1994 and the appointed and served as China’s Alternate Representative to the

Second Committee (Financial & Economic Affairs) of the General Assembly of the United

Nations from 1995 to 1998. During this period, he also acted as one of the leading spokesman

of the Group of 77, responsible for negotiating many UN and international conferences

documents. Starting from April 1998, he has successively served as deputy director and

director of the Arms Control and Disarmament Department of China’s Ministry of Foreign

Affairs up to now.
